Curriculum

We operate a 25 lesson week with 5 lessons each day. All lessons are 60 minutes long. Each day starts with a tutor session or an assembly. 

Key Stage 3

In many subject areas, pupils are placed into sets according to their ability from the beginning of Year 7. Progress is thoroughly monitored at all stages to ensure pupils’ positions in sets remain appropriate. The following subjects are studied:

  • Science
  • Technology
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Modern Language -French or German
  • History
  • Geography
  • Religious Education
  • Art
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Personal, Social and Health Education

Careers Education and Guidance lessons are introduced in Year 9.

Key Stage 4

The curriculum for senior pupils provides a well-balanced curriculum while allowing a limited degree of specialisation. All pupils study a core curriculum of:

  • English and English Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Technology
  • ICT
  • Physical Education
  • Personal, Social and Health Education
  • Short Course RE
  • Careers Education 

Additional subjects such as French, German, Art, Music, Physical Education, History, Geography are also available within a guided option scheme. 

The curriculum also supports some GCSE Vocational Courses which run parallel with the full programme of GCSE courses.
